TOPEKA, KANSAS — The Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) today announced its partnership with Maximus. Maximus will establish a dedicated Kansas-based team to deliver Statewide Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Assessment Organization services across multiple waiver programs, commencing in July 2025. The contract empowers Maximus to operate the Statewide HCBS Assessment Organization with a focus on continuous improvement in the quality, timeliness, accuracy, and overall usefulness of the data produced by the HCBS assessment program.
A reliable and timely assessment process is critical in meeting the needs of individuals of all ages who want to live in their communities. The work performed by Maximus will support KDADS’s goals for integrated solutions that promote the well-being of people in the Physical Disability (PD), Frail Elderly (FE), and Brain Injury (BI) HCBS waivers, as well as the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). Maximus will process program referrals and provide accurate and timely assessments to connect people with the right services—in the most appropriate settings and at the right time—to meet their needs.
Maximus will collaborate with community agencies and organizations to improve access to long-term services and supports (LTSS). Maximus will also develop communications and training materials to reach people served across the PD, FE, BI waivers, PACE, family caregivers, professionals, and community partners.
Maximus will identify and mitigate barriers that prevent accurate eligibility and streamlined entry into long-term care services. This includes partnering with the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) to create efficient and effective hand-offs to avoid unnecessary delays.
Starting July 1, 2025, the KDADS website will feature a new Statewide Assessing Entity section where people can learn more about the program, available services, the assessment process, and how to request services.
From when Maximus receives the referral until the assessment is complete and submitted to the appropriate agency, people will experience efficient, person-centered processes and receive timely, accurate services.
