This training is a valuable resource for Peer workforce development. Our desire and intention is to continue to grow and strengthen our Peer workforce by making training accessible and consistent. Training occurs in two parts: Level One for certification as a Kansas Certified Peer Specialist in Training (KCPST), which is an online, self-paced format, and Level Two for certification as a Kansas Certified Peer Specialist, which is a 2.5-day training that will be offered up to 4 times per year in varying locations around the state or virtually.
The level one training will provide for a person with lived experience as a person in sustained mental health recovery to apply for certification as a Kansas Certified Peer Specialist in Training (KCPST). Under the KCPST certification, the Peer Specialist may provide up to 20 hours of billable services per week under the supervision requirements. The KCPST certification is valid for one year from the date of issue. Within that year, the Peer Specialist must complete the level II Kansas Certified Peer Specialist (KCPS) training and make an application for certification as a KCPS. Level II training can be taken after 90 days of supervision and once the supervisor of the KCPST verifies that the KCPST has shown competency in delivering peer support services. Upon certification as a KCPS, the Peer Specialist may provide up to 30 billable hours of peer support services per week under the required supervision. Level I training is required for all persons before Level II training may be taken.
Downloadable application documents required for certification can be found under the Training documents section below. Once the completed application and required documents are submitted, reviewed, and approved by KDADS, the individual and their supervisor will receive their approval letter and the Certification document by email.
