Kansas Certified Parent Peer Support Specialist (KCPPSS) Information

Parent Peer Support is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) program requirement as part of their required scope of services (peer supports). Parent Peer Support is a specialized service that provides support to parents with children who are struggling with Serious Emotional Disturbance, Substance Use, or co-occurring conditions. This service is provided to support the stabilization of the child and enhance the family’s quality of life.

Parent Peer Support providers must self-identify as a person with lived experience in raising a child with a Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED), Substance Use Disorder (SUD), or co-occurring mental health diagnosis.

The training is provided free and occurs in two parts:

  • Part One
    • The Level 1 training toward becoming a Kansas Certified Parent Peer Support Specialist in Training (KCPPSST) is online and self-paced.
    • The Individualized Education Plan (IEP) training through Families Together is online. Families Together will send you the link after completing the Level 1 training.
  • Part Two
    • The Level 2 training occurs after KCPPSST certification and a 90-day supervision period.
    • Parent Peers in Training are eligible for the 2-day training, held at least quarterly in varying locations around the state, alternating between in-person and virtual offerings.

To be fully certified, both levels must be completed, and certification applied for and accepted through KDADS. Please see the FAQs below for more details.
