Integrated Care in Kansas

  • Protect Kansans. Promote Recovery. Support Self-Sufficiency.

Communication Strategy

This strategy was developed after discussions with all stakeholders, considering the various concerns about patient records, rights, and HIPAA.

  1. Utilize Kansas Train and have all staff complete:
HIPAA Awareness - Module 1 (1047429) Home - KS-TRAIN - an affiliate of the TRAIN Learning Network powered by the Public Health Foundation
    SUD - HIPAA and Part 2 | HHS.gov

    a. To ensure all entities are operating with the same understanding of HIPAA rules regarding client information sharing

  2. Join and utilize one of 4 HIEs: KHIN, LACIE, Velatura, or CyncHealth

    a. Allows for ease of information sharing

    1. Training on how to utilize KHIN available – take advantage of this!!! KHIN is a powerful platform for population health

    b. Ensures providers have access to needed client information without having to “call around”

    3. Below is a list of agreed-upon base information to be shared by all entities via HIEs

  • Diagnosis
  • IEPs from schools
  • Care plan - PC
  • Treatment summary, instead of treatment plans - BH
  • Opt out form (for information clients don’t want shared)
  • Immunization
  • Discharges/Visits
  • Medications
