Dual Diagnosis Treatment and Training Services

The Dual Diagnosis Treatment and Training Services (DDT&TS) project was opened in 1997 to provide services for Kansans who have a developmental disorder and a mental illness diagnosis. DDT&TS work with individuals from age three to late adulthood. The project intends to reduce the need for admission to state hospitals for individuals with dual diagnoses. From 2002 through June 2025, the project has provided services to 2739 Kansans.

DDT&TS works with the individual, parents, school, and other organizational staff who support the individual in the community. Anyone may request an outreach behavioral consultation for an individual they work with. Services include an initial on-site assessment to determine the hypothesized function(s) of the individual's challenging behavior. The assessment process involves observing the individual in multiple environments and examining environmental and psychiatric factors. Based on the assessment results, a behavioral support plan is developed and provided to the individual's support team

DDT&TS provides six months of follow-up services after beginning a consultation. Follow-up services include summarizing and analyzing data collected by community support teams and recommending intervention strategies. DDT&TS monitors progress and maintains regular contact and support for community teams during follow-up. Training on recommended intervention strategies is provided to parents and community staff working with the individual.

Training Information

DDT&TS outreach services also provide training on behavioral interventions and various mental and behavioral health issues. These staff development activities are available as resources to assist community organizations and schools in building capacity to help individuals with dual diagnoses remain in their home communities. Staff, parent, and organizational training are tailored to the individual needs of each requestor. Requests to present at regional conferences are also accepted.

For DDT&TS consultation or to request staff development training, email the DDT&TS Director who can assist with the referral and consultation process or develop a training session or conference tailored to your organization's or community's specific needs.
